The 4th Annual Junior Police Academy is sponsored by the Riverside Police Department. Program instruction and activities will be at the Riverside City Hall, located at 2950 NW Vivion Road.
The Riverside Junior Police Academy’s purpose is to provide young citizens with an introduction to Law Enforcement by providing an abbreviated overview taught in law enforcement academies. The Riverside Junior Police Academy program will not certify participants as police officers nor will it allow them to enforce the laws of this State. The program is designed to build partnerships with students by motivating them to be responsible, involved citizens. Young adults often do not understand role of police officers. Unfortunately, many young people view a police officer only in the role of “enforcer” and develop their perceptions of police officers from what they see on television.
Students will participate in hands-on activities ranging from computerized interactive scenarios, car stops, accident investigation, crime scene investigation, and physical training. This year’s program will focus on team building, diverse law enforcement skills, encouraging healthy lifestyles through fitness and discipline, while building new friendships in a fun and fast paced environment.
The Riverside Junior Police Academy will take the mystery out of Law Enforcement and provide a comfortable setting for which officers and students can interact in an environment free of enforcement. It will also provide an opportunity for officers and students to view each other as people, rather than as adversaries. While students who attend the Junior Police Academy program may not want wish to become Police Officers in the future, the program will instill confidence, understanding, and a sense of achievement that will benefit them for years to come.
